  Projects
INHP (Integrated Nutrition & Health Project)

The INHP was initiated in the year 2002 in partnership with CARE. The objective of the project is to reduce IMR an MMR through strengthening Anganwadi centers as demonstration sites in close collaboration with the Department of Medical & Health and Women Development & Child Welfare and Panchayat Raj institutions. The project was taken up in 142 villages covering nine ICDS Projects belongs to 30 mandals in Karimnagar district. The major achievements of the project are as follows:

  • Improved CBOs involvement in ICDS activities
  • Promoted and strengthened Change Agents at DS level
  • Minimized drop outs & left outs
  • Reached ICDS & health services to the beneficiaries
  • Stabilized CBMS & SMT
  • Being institutionalized good governance at DS level
  • Improved the capacities of AWWs, CAs, ANMs and  DAIs
  • Reduced blind believes on cholesterol feeding & delay bath
  • Improved institutional deliveries
  • Developed integration between ICDS & health departments
  • Initiated Block Level Advisory Committees
  • Improved PRIs participation at DS level
  • Integration with CASHE project & involved Swayam Sidda groups in micro finance program

Initiated innovations

  • Rejuvenated “Annaprsana” for the seven-month-old children to inculcate the importance of complimentary feeding among the community and also to avoid social discrimination.
  • Introduced “Akshayapathra” to provide nutritious food to children by mobilizing food grains and vegetables from the community and also by seeking community involvement in strengthening of Demonstration Sites.
  • Initiated “Community Health Fund” at 60 percent demonstration sites with the help of beneficiaries and local community.
  • Developed toy bank to create interest among children.
  • Developed library to impart health education to AGs, CAs and CBOs
  • Institutionalized “Health Depot” at DS level to provide medicines for minor aliments of the target people and also to save them expenditure.
  • Initiated Kitchen Gardens in the houses of beneficiaries of 30% demonstration sites (DS).
  • Introduced “Katori pack” and it is being practiced in 30 per cent DSs
  • Intuited block level advisory committee meeting

Initiated Best practices

  • Practicing cholesterol feeding, exclusive breast feeding up to six months and complimentary feeding in more than 80 per cent Development Sites.
  • Using injection safety boxes for protection of environment.
  • Due to the efforts made by the team members pre-school material is came into usage.
  • Displayed stock notice boards, scales for measuring height of pregnant women and BCC material on walls at all demonstration sites.
Synergy with other departments
  • Organized eye camps with the help of Rekurti Charitable eye hospital. 3542 persons have undergone treatment.
  • Arranged hemoglobin test for adolescent girls with the support of secondary school staff, PRIs, ICDS and Krushi, local NGOs in Sirsilla, Jagtial blocks. 2956 AGs have undergone HB test.
  • Integrated with CASHE project in Sirsilla block. 22 Swayam Sidda groups have been covered under micro finance program.
  • Medicines were supplied to all Demonstration Sites by Krushi for strengthening Health Depot with the support of Medical and Health Department
  • Supplied Belladonna in not only DS villages but also in remote corners of the district to control brain fever. This intervention was made with the help of Homeopathy Department.
  • Working on women issues like rights, atrocities, and domestic violence in cooperation with SAHAYA center established by govt. and NGOs together.

Health services for urban poor

The Krushi is extending health services to 15000 people residing in slums of Sirsilla town through Urban Health Center supported by the Medical & Health Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The center occupies a permanent building constructed by the department. The target population of the center is mother and child. It has effective network with community-based organizations called as Mahila Arogya Sanghams (MAS) promoted as part of health project. Apart from extending regular service to the target community, it also focuses on other seasonal diseases like TB, Malaria, Diarrhea etc. The Krushi made special efforts on controlling the seasonal diseases. It is continuing efforts to reduce TB. There majority of people are dependent on textile and beedi industry, therefore the intensity of the disease is very high. The following services were delivered to the target people during the year:

  • 19914 out patients examined
  • 319 children immunized
  • Ante-natal checkups conducted for 353
  • Post-natal checkups conducted for 292
  • Regular meetings organized for MACS.
  • 480 members of MAS underwent training on health education
  • 234 sterilization conducted through special camps.
  • Imparted training for 250 adolescent girls on health issues

Andhra Pradesh Social Marketing Program

The Andhra Pradesh Social Marketing Program is implemented by the Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust with the support of European Union and in collaboration with the Department of Family Welfare, Government of Andhra Pradesh. The objective of the program is to promote contraceptive spacing methods by using oral pills and condoms. Ultimately, this initiative will help the community in respect of birth control, health care of both mother and child and create awareness on use of condoms and their importance, reduce RTI and STDs. The activities, which were taken up during the year in Karimnagar district, are as follows:

  • Trained 780 Sukh Parivar Margadarshi volunteers
  • Trained 230 ANM
